Trump Seeks Compensation from Iran for Attacks and Protest Deaths
President Trump demanded Iran pay compensation for Americans killed in Iranian-backed attacks and for hundreds of thousands of protesters killed in Iran, linking the demand to future negotiations.
Responding to Iranian officials reportedly seeking compensation for damage during recent military conflict, Trump said the conflict began because Iran "will not have a nuclear weapon." He then pivoted, stating he is demanding compensation from Iran for the people killed by roadside bombs and other conflicts, including those leading back to General Soleimani and the USS Cole, along with thousands of other war dead.
Trump also demanded compensation for the families of "hundreds of thousands of innocent protestors" killed in Iran over the past 50 years, and specifically referenced 52,000 killed in the last five months. He said he has instructed his representatives to firmly insert this demand into all future negotiations.
