Trump Floats Walking Away from Iran War Without Deal if Strait Reopens
President Trump privately suggested to aides he might end the conflict with Iran without a nuclear deal if the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened, according to WSJ.
According to WSJ, President Trump has told senior aides he is willing to "walk away" from the Iran War without securing a nuclear agreement, on the condition that Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal reportedly became more difficult yesterday after Iran demanded its highest price yet for reopening the waterway, including billions of dollars in U.S. payments and the removal of American troops from the region.
U.S. officials note that Trump remains patient and expects to ride out current developments as long as gasoline prices stay near their present levels. The President also privately assessed that Iran is unlikely to be able to revive its nuclear weapons program during his term. The negotiations, however, are described as increasingly complicated.
