Trump Announces Release of US Marine Robert Gilman from Russian Detention
Former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman is returning home after Russia agreed to release him on humanitarian grounds without any exchange, according to President Trump.
President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that former United States Marine Robert Gilman, imprisoned in Russia since 2022 during the Biden administration, is being released and will land at Andrews Air Force Base tonight.
Trump stated that following his discussions with President Vladimir Putin, Russia agreed to release Gilman "very much on a Humanitarian Basis," with no prisoner exchange requested. Gilman will be welcomed by Trump’s representatives, some of whom accompanied him on the plane.
The President also noted that his administration has prioritized bringing home detained Americans, returning “hundreds” to their families, and has freed non‑Americans held in various countries. Gilman has already been reunited with his mother, Nancy, who is traveling with him.
