Trump Accounts Officially Launch

Robinhood and BNY are partnering with the U.S. Treasury to offer tax-advantaged investment accounts for children born 2025–2028 with a $1,000 government contribution.

Robinhood Markets, together with BNY, has officially launched "Trump Accounts," a new tax-advantaged investment account program for American children. The initiative is administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and aims to provide every eligible child with a $1,000 government seed contribution.

Children who are U.S. citizens born between 2025 and 2028 are eligible for the initial government deposit. Families can activate accounts through the Trump Accounts app or web platform, with contributions starting to hit accounts today. The program is designed to introduce long-term saving and investing from birth.

Robinhood serves as the initial trustee of the accounts, alongside BNY as a partner. "Ownership works best when it starts at birth," said Vlad Tenev, Chairman and CEO of Robinhood. "Trump Accounts help the next generation build a financial foundation from day one." BNY CEO Robin Vince added that the program "has the potential to introduce millions of children to the long-term power of saving and investing."

How It Works

Families must file IRS Form 4547 via TrumpAccounts.gov to receive the government contribution. After the form is processed, the account can be activated in the Trump Accounts app. Contributions from family, friends, employers, and qualified donors are also allowed, and funds are automatically invested in a default low-cost index fund.

Upon turning 18, the account converts into a traditional IRA, giving the child control over investments and distributions. The Treasury estimates that consistent contributions could compound significantly over time.
