TikTok Ban on U.S. Government Devices Lifted
The Trump administration has removed restrictions on TikTok's use across federal devices, declaring the app no longer a national security threat after a restructuring deal.
The Trump administration has lifted the ban on TikTok's use across U.S. government devices, marking a significant policy reversal. The Justice Department now says the U.S. version of the app is majority American-owned and operates independently of ByteDance.
The move follows a January agreement that transferred control of TikTok’s U.S. operations to a consortium led by Oracle and Silver Lake. That deal was designed to address long-standing national security concerns about data handling and Chinese ownership.
Officials declared that TikTok no longer poses a threat, reversing years of scrutiny from Washington where lawmakers viewed the platform as a potential risk.
