Tether Increases Gold Holdings to Record 146 Tonnes in Q2 2026

In the second quarter of 2026, Tether added more than 14 tonnes of gold to its reserves, pushing total holdings to a record 146 tonnes. That stockpile is now worth approximately $18.8 billion.

The latest purchase follows a period of aggressive accumulation: the firm bought 53 tonnes of gold between the third quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. Since early 2025, Tether’s gold holdings have more than doubled in weight and nearly tripled in dollar value.

Tether now ranks as the largest known private gold holder outside of central banks and governments. In the first half of 2026, only four central banks—Poland, Uzbekistan, China, and Kazakhstan—acquired more gold than the stablecoin issuer, underscoring its growing footprint in the precious metals market.
