Ten Drown, One Dies in Mass Migration Attempt to Spanish Enclave Ceuta
At least 11 people died as around 40,000 migrants attempted to cross into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco, with others attempting to enter Melilla, according to Moroccan authorities.
Morocco's interior ministry reported that ten people drowned and one person died after falling from a cliff during a large-scale attempt to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Approximately 40,000 individuals tried to cross into Ceuta, and around 1,135 sought to enter Melilla.
The incident underscores ongoing migration pressures at the EU's southern border. Ceuta and Melilla, two Spanish territories on the North African coast, have long been flashpoints for migrants seeking entry to Europe.
Authorities have not yet provided further details on the circumstances or the nationalities of the deceased.
