The decision represents a diplomatic step forward for Taipei, which was barred from the 2023 event after China objected. Beijing routinely opposes Taiwan’s participation in multilateral forums, viewing the island as part of its territory.
Palau is one of the few nations maintaining formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, and the summit’s host has historically advocated for its participation. The move may strain Palau’s relations with China, which has previously warned against interactions with Taipei.
