SharpLink CEO Slams EIP-8363 Proposal to Cut Ethereum Staking Rewards
Joseph Shalom, CEO of SharpLink, criticized Ethereum's EIP-8363, which seeks to limit staked ETH by reducing validator rewards, arguing it would eliminate a key yield advantage over Bitcoin.
Ethereum Improvement Proposal 8363 aims to restrict the growth of staked ETH by implementing a reward curve that lowers validator payouts as the staking ratio rises. The goal is to mitigate centralization risks and maintain network security.
Joseph Shalom, CEO of the sports betting and affiliate platform SharpLink, publicly opposed the measure. He warned that voluntarily curbing staking returns would strip Ethereum of a distinct feature that Bitcoin lacks: a yield for holding the asset. Shalom views the proposal as a potential competitive misstep.
If adopted, the change could disincentivize staking participation, possibly impacting ETH demand and tokenomics. The debate highlights a growing tension between network decentralization goals and the appeal of yield generation for users and institutions.
