SBI Group Launches JPYSC Stablecoin Lending at 3% Yield

SBI Group will start accepting applications on July 16 for a 12-week fixed-term lending product offering a 3% annual yield on its JPYSC stablecoin through SBI VC Trade.

Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Group announced on July 13 that it will launch a stablecoin lending product for its JPYSC token, offering a 3% annual yield to depositors. Applications open on July 16 through SBI VC Trade, the group's cryptocurrency trading platform.

The product has a fixed 12-week term and is designed to encourage holding of JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin that SBI introduced less than a month ago. JPYSC is the first trust bank-backed yen stablecoin in Japan, and SBI expects it to reduce transaction costs and support block trades for both retail and corporate users.

Broader On-Chain Push

The lending product is the latest move in SBI's aggressive expansion into on-chain finance. The group recently acted as the sole investor in a $125 million Series C for risk management firm Gauntlet and a $76 million Series C for institutional crypto platform EDX Markets, both closing last week. In June, SBI agreed to acquire crypto exchange Bitbank for approximately $289 million. An SBI spokesperson said these investments align with the group's goal of offering a complete suite of on-chain services, including exchanges, asset tokenization, and market infrastructure.

Japan's Growing Stablecoin Activity

SBI's lending launch coincides with broader stablecoin developments in Japan. Convenience store chain Lawson began piloting JPYC stablecoin payments at one location, as reported by Nikkei on July 13. Japan's three largest banks — MUFG, SMFG, and Mizuho — announced last month that they plan to conduct live commercial transactions using a jointly issued stablecoin during fiscal year 2026. The simultaneous advances across retail, banking, and investment sectors indicate an expanding stablecoin infrastructure in the country.
