RWA Volume on DeFi Platforms Surges to $7.4B in Q2, Despite Overall TVL Dip

Tokenized real-world assets reached $7.4 billion across credit platforms and decentralized exchanges from April to June, up from $2.3 billion a year ago, even as total DeFi deposits fell 15%.

The volume of real-world assets (RWA) on lending platforms and decentralized exchanges hit $7.4 billion in the second quarter, a sharp increase from $2.3 billion in the same period last year, according to a joint report by CoinShares and Token Terminal.

Over the same three months, total deposits in DeFi protocols shrank by roughly 15%. Yet the share of RWA within those deposits climbed to 6% by the end of June.

Analysts interpret the divergence as evidence that demand is being driven by the financial utility of the assets rather than purely by the broader market cycle.
