Researcher Finds North Korean Hacker Traces in 1,640 Organizations

Over a 22-month period, cybersecurity researcher Vangelis Stikas uncovered indicators of intrusion by North Korean hackers in 1,640 organizations spanning 57 countries. He estimates that in 700 to 800 cases, the attacks led to significant infrastructure compromise.
Among the potentially impacted entities are crypto-native companies such as Coinbase and Uniswap Labs, as well as Boston Children’s Hospital, Japan’s AEON Smart Technology, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo, Italy’s Supreme Council of the Judiciary, a unit of Saudi Arabia’s Al Rajhi Bank, and the Flemish government’s Digitaal Vlaanderen.
According to Stikas, the attackers gained access to large amounts of confidential data, but primarily sought cryptocurrency wallets and their associated keys.
