RBA Holds Rate at 4.35%, Signals Less Hawkish Stance
The Reserve Bank of Australia kept its cash rate unchanged but adopted a less hawkish tone, judging policy to be 'somewhat restrictive' amid an easing labor market.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) left its key interest rate at 4.35% at its latest meeting, but tempered its tightening bias, according to BBH’s Elias Haddad. The central bank described its policy stance as “somewhat restrictive” and pointed to a labor market that has eased more than previously expected.
The shift in language suggests the RBA is becoming more comfortable with the current policy setting and less inclined to hike further. The hold came alongside acknowledgment that the jobs market is cooling, reducing pressure for additional tightening.
The Australian dollar edged lower following the decision, as the central bank’s less hawkish tone dampened rate-hike expectations.
