Qualcomm launches 2nm Snapdragon chips for on-device AI agents

Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Extreme Gen 6, its first 2nm mobile platforms, with the top model capable of running 30-billion-parameter AI models locally.

Qualcomm introduced two new mobile processor lines, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon Extreme Gen 6. The company describes them as its first platforms built on a 2nm process and designed specifically for running AI agents on smartphones.

The higher-end version can handle models with up to 30 billion parameters directly on the device, removing the need to send data to cloud servers.

The new products position Qualcomm around on-device AI inference rather than cloud-dependent processing.
