Public Launches Crypto Trading in IRAs

The AI-native investing platform now lets members trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and other cryptocurrencies within Traditional and Roth IRAs, offering potential tax-deferred or tax-free growth.
Public, the AI-native investing platform, has expanded its retirement account offering by enabling cryptocurrency trading inside Traditional and Roth IRAs. The move, announced today, allows members to build long-term crypto positions while potentially benefiting from tax-deferred or tax-free earnings.
Crypto has become a mainstream asset class, but until now everyday investors lacked a straightforward way to incorporate it into their retirement strategies. By integrating crypto directly into its IRA infrastructure, Public removes those barriers and lets users trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other supported coins with potential tax advantages.
“Crypto has matured from an experimental asset class into a global asset class, but retirement investing hasn’t kept pace,” said Leif Abraham, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Public. “Launching crypto trading in IRA accounts on Public is a new innovation that is allowing investors to take advantage of potential tax benefits and trade more asset classes for retirement.”
With this launch, Public members can manage crypto alongside equities and options within a single retirement portfolio. To further encourage long-term wealth building, Public offers a 1% match on all annual IRA contributions and an uncapped 1% match on IRA transfers and 401(k) rollovers (terms apply).
Public, headquartered in New York City, launched in 2019 and has raised over $400 million from investors including Accel and Tiger Global. The platform is designed for affluent investors and has accumulated billions in assets under its management.
