Oil Sinks on US-Iran Deal Hopes: ING
Brent crude prices fell sharply as optimism over a potential US-Iran deal eased Middle East supply concerns, according to ING strategists.
Oil prices, led by ICE Brent, tumbled sharply on Monday as traders reacted to signals that a US-Iran agreement could be within reach. ING strategists Warren Patterson and Ewa Manthey noted that the selloff was directly driven by the deal optimism, which raised hopes of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and reduced the risk premium built into crude.
A potential diplomatic breakthrough would remove a key source of supply disruption fears that have supported prices for weeks. While details remain scarce, the mere prospect of de-escalation was enough to trigger a wave of long liquidation in the oil market.
