Lido Deploys Curated Module v2, Moving 8M ETH to New Validators

Lido launched Curated Module v2 on July 27, initiating the transfer of over 8 million ETH (~$16 billion) to 0x02-format validators. The upgrade will cut the total validator count by about a third and require operators to bond their own ETH for the first time.

On July 27, the Lido team rolled out Curated Module v2, a protocol-level upgrade that will gradually shift more than 8 million ETH (approximately $16 billion) into new validators using the 0x02 withdrawal credential format.

Key changes include:

  • The total number of Ethereum validators is expected to decline by roughly one-third.
  • For the first time, Lido node operators must stake their own ETH as a performance bond, aligning incentives for higher reliability.
  • The transition requires no action from Lido stakers; all adjustments are handled automatically by the protocol.

The move is designed to streamline validator management and improve the overall security of the staking pool. Lido remains the largest liquid staking protocol on Ethereum, and this upgrade could further strengthen its operational efficiency.
