Japan’s Treasury Holdings Plunge $96B to Lowest Since April 2025

Japan reduced its U.S. Treasury holdings by $96 billion over three months to $1.14 trillion, the lowest since April 2025, while China continued to trim its portfolio as part of a long-term diversification from U.S. debt.

Japan has cut its U.S. Treasury holdings by $96 billion over the past three months, bringing the total to $1.14 trillion—the lowest level since April 2025. The move marks a notable acceleration in the reduction of its once-massive stockpile.

China, another major holder, also continued trimming its Treasury portfolio. The selling extends Beijing’s long-standing diversification away from U.S. government debt.
