JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon acknowledged that it is understandable for Gen Z to feel discouraged about their economic prospects, but he pushed back against the idea that the American Dream is dead. He insisted that for most people, the dream remains achievable.
Dimon noted that overall, a majority of Americans have seen their wealth increase. However, he conceded that the bottom 20% of income earners have been left behind, pointing to stubborn challenges such as high housing costs, stagnant incomes, and unequal opportunities as key drivers of younger generations’ pessimism.
His central message was that the American Dream is still attainable for the majority, but it must become accessible to more Americans.
