Israel seeks dialogue with Austria's Freedom Party despite historical concerns
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said Israel wants substantive, open and candid dialogue to establish ties with Austria's FPÖ, following leader Herbert Kickl's Strasbourg speech condemning Hamas and adopting the IHRA antisemitism definition.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said the country wants 'substantive, open and candid dialogue' to establish relations with Austria's Freedom Party (FPÖ), Haaretz reported.
The comments follow a Strasbourg speech by FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl in which he condemned the October 7 Hamas attack and adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism. The party was founded by former Nazis and has historically been associated with antisemitic figures.
The apparent outreach marks a shift in tone toward a party that has faced scrutiny over its past.
