Is Gemini Down? Errors 1155 and 1099, GOOGL Closed at…

Users reported Gemini failures coded 1155 on 8 October, but Google's incident dashboards showed no October entry as Alphabet closed at $348.29, down 0.63%.
Alphabet shares ended Thursday 8 October 2026 at $348.29, down $2.21, or 0.63%, from the prior close of $350.50, on volume of 23,511,140 shares, according to Nasdaq daily prints. The session coincided with a wave of user complaints that Google's Gemini assistant was failing, yet the company's public incident pages carried no October Gemini row — the newest Workspace item in the file begins 25 September.
What users saw
Tom's Guide tracked Downdetector reports moving from roughly 1,700 to above 5,000 between 16:20 and 17:26 UTC, later logging 4,811, about 2,000 and then 355, while Google's status line continued to read "All systems operational." The code users cited was 1155. Windows Report counted 4,412 reports at 16:07 UTC across several countries and described a screen reading "Something Went Wrong (1)," though its headline also named 1099. Ascendants, citing GV Wire, put the afternoon near 10,000 reports by 9:40 a.m. Pacific with codes 13 and 1155 — a peak that conflicts with the Tom's Guide tally.
The comparison point Google has actually published is 10 June 2026, when it logged a medium-severity Workspace incident from 10:20 to 17:30 UTC. That notice cited codes 1099 and 1076, a 50% prompt error rate and a backend database performance issue that disrupted retrieval of the Gemini App tools catalog. Josh Woodward, identified by CNET as vice president of the Gemini app, said at the time that Gemini was experiencing an outage and that fixes were being deployed. No equivalent statement followed Thursday's reports.
The earnings arithmetic
In its Q2 2026 results filed 22 July, Alphabet reported revenue of $119.796 billion, up 24%, with Google Cloud revenue of $24.768 billion, up 82% from $13.624 billion. Cloud operating income was $8.814 billion on a 35.59% margin, against group operating income of $40.770 billion and $44.924 billion of property and equipment purchases. Cloud revenue works out to about $272.2 million a day over 91 days; a fully credited day at that margin is roughly $96.9 million, or 0.24% of quarterly operating income. It would take about 4.21 such days to equal 1% of that profit, and only if the entire cloud book went dark.
Sundar Pichai said in the same release that nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 were using Gemini Enterprise, that models were processing 22 billion API tokens a minute, and that the Gemini app had 950 million monthly active users.
On the tape, Thursday's close sits 0.87% above the 20-session average of $345.26 and 11.27% above the 31 December 2025 close of $313.00. A Friday premarket print of $351.00 at 8:18 a.m. Eastern is not a close. Google had not acknowledged the Thursday reports in the pages reviewed.
