Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf disclosed details about the hours following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He said senior officials learned of the killing approximately one hour after a bombing but chose to delay a public announcement until 8 a.m. the next day.
Ghalibaf added that the formation of a Leadership Council was declared at the same time the death was officially confirmed. The remarks provide an unusual inside look at the transition management within Iran’s top leadership.
