Introducing Trailing Stoploss on Kite web

India's largest broker has launched trailing stop-loss on Kite web for GTT orders, allowing automatic adjustment of stop triggers as trades move in the user's favour.

Zerodha has introduced a trailing stop-loss (TSL) feature for GTT (Good Till Triggered) orders on its Kite web platform. The capability, one of the most requested by clients, automatically moves a stop-loss trigger as the underlying price moves in the trader’s direction, reducing the need for manual adjustments.

A trailing stop-loss works by resetting the trigger price in fixed increments when the market moves favourably. For a sell GTT, the stop-loss trigger rises as the price increases; for a buy GTT, it falls as the price declines. If the price reverses, the trigger stays at its last adjusted level, preserving any gains already locked in.

The key parameter is the "trailing point," which determines the price move required before the trigger is adjusted. For example, a ₹1 trailing point moves the stop loss by ₹1 for every ₹1 favourable move. The minimum trailing point varies by instrument and segment, and is shown during order creation. The platform also displays the price at which the next adjustment will occur.

Trailing stop-loss is available on both Single and OCO (One Cancels Other) GTT orders. It can be used with limit or market orders. On the Kite web interface, users enable trailing in the stop-loss section of the GTT order form and enter the trailing point. Once an order has been adjusted, a "Trailed" tag with an arrow appears, showing how far the trigger has moved from the initial level. If a user manually edits the stop-loss trigger, the trailing reference resets to the current market price.

Availability and restrictions

The feature is currently live on Kite web and will be rolled out to the Kite mobile app soon. It supports NSE, BSE, NFO, BFO and MCX segments, and works with CNC, MTF and NRML product types. For equity, trailing is available only on sell-side GTTs; for F&O, it works on both buy and sell sides.

A GTT trigger is valid only once. If the order does not execute after triggering, a fresh GTT must be placed.
