Introducing 'Link & Pay' Tokenized Payments

Coins.ph, the Philippines’ largest digital asset exchange and a fast-growing mobile wallet, has launched a tokenized payment feature called Link & Pay. The new functionality aims to reduce checkout friction by replacing repeated logins and one-time passwords (OTPs) with a secure, one-time account linking process.

Tokenization generates a unique digital token for each merchant, so users never share their actual login credentials or sensitive account data. After an initial linking step—done via the Coins.ph app or web interface—future purchases require only a tap on the Coins.ph option at checkout. The token is meaningless outside of the specific merchant relationship, adding a layer of security even if a merchant’s system is breached.

Built-in Safety Caps

To protect balances, automatic tokenized payments are subject to limits:

• PHP 1,000 per transaction
• PHP 5,000 total per day
• 5 successful transactions per day

Any payment exceeding these thresholds triggers a manual confirmation by the user.

How to Link an Account

The process is designed to take under a minute:

1. On the merchant’s checkout page, select Link Coins Account.
2. You are redirected to Coins.ph (the app opens automatically if installed). Review the terms and enter an OTP to authorize the link.
3. Thereafter, selecting Coins.ph at checkout completes the transaction instantly.

Merchant Benefits

For businesses, Link & Pay supports recurring payments and direct debits, enabling automated billing for subscriptions, utilities, or other periodic charges. Merchants can pull authorized amounts directly from a customer’s PHP balance, reducing churn from missed payments and providing predictable cash flow. Funds settle in real-time to the merchant’s Coins.ph account.

The feature supplements Coins.ph’s existing WebPay service, which still requires a login for every purchase. Tokenized payments are intended to offer a “VIP” checkout experience for repeat customers.

Availability and Future Plans

Currently, Link & Pay works with a user’s PHP wallet balance on Coins.ph. The company says it is working to add more payment options in the future. Users can revoke a merchant link from the merchant’s end initially, and Coins.ph plans to build in-app management of all linked merchants directly within the Coins.ph app.
