Interactive Brokers Integrates AI into Client Portfolios - Controlled by the Client

Interactive Brokers (Nasdaq: IBKR) has integrated its brokerage platform with Claude, the AI assistant developed by Anthropic, enabling clients to manage accounts and access over 170 global markets through natural language commands. The integration is available via Claude's certified connector marketplace.

Clients can link their existing Interactive Brokers account to Claude within minutes using their standard IBKR login credentials. The setup carries no additional fees and does not require opening a separate brokerage account. Behind the scenes, the integration leverages the same APIs that many active IBKR users have built custom trading processes on. To bolster security, the firm opted for an enterprise-level integration that avoids sharing API keys or passwords with the AI provider and stores no authentication credentials on the client's computer.

Milan Galik, CEO of Interactive Brokers, said the move is a natural progression as investors increasingly use AI to research markets, analyze information and generate ideas. "We believe the next logical step is to allow clients to securely connect AI tools directly to their brokerage accounts," he stated in the announcement.

With the new tool, clients can ask questions about their portfolio or markets and receive analysis grounded in their own account data. They can also generate trade instructions tied to that analysis. In line with a human-in-the-middle design, those instructions appear in a dedicated AI Instructions tab across all IBKR platforms. Clients must review and approve each instruction before it is submitted as an order to the marketplace.

Initial Capabilities and Roadmap

At launch, the integration supports instructions for equities and ETFs using market and limit orders. Additional asset classes are expected to follow within roughly a week. The Claude integration is live now. Interactive Brokers noted that similar integrations with ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok are currently undergoing certification with their respective platforms and should be available soon.

The Claude integration complements several existing AI-powered tools within Interactive Brokers' own platforms, including AI Screeners for natural-language stock searches, Investment Themes to explore sectors, Connections for cross-asset discovery, Ask IBKR for portfolio Q&A, and AI News Summaries.
