Hydra’s Crypto Trail Remains Visible Nearly Four Years After Shutdown

Nearly four years after Hydra was shut down, BitOK analysts say funds from the darknet marketplace moved through the same payout infrastructure used by Kraken, with $186.5 million traced.

BitOK researchers say the financial footprint of Hydra, the largest Russian-language darknet marketplace, remains traceable almost four years after its 2022 closure. They identified marketplace-related funds in the same payout system used by Kraken.

The findings are part of an investigation into how Hydra’s financial infrastructure operated, the routes taken by $186.5 million in funds, and its links to an earlier marketplace.

Key points from the BitOK review:

  • Hydra’s crypto footprint remains traceable despite the platform’s shutdown.
  • Funds were identified in payout infrastructure also used by Kraken.
  • The analysis covers $186.5 million in flows and connections to a predecessor marketplace.
