Chainalysis reports FIFA collected $6 million in fees from secondary market sales of NFT tickets for the 2026 World Cup, driven by fans from nations that qualified.
FIFA generated $6 million by taking a 5% cut on every resale of NFT tickets for the 2026 World Cup, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. The revenue was accumulated on the organization's own trading platform and then moved to a major exchange.
Demand was strongest from supporters of teams that have secured qualification, who accounted for $17.6 million in resale volume, compared with $6.6 million from the rest of the world. Most transactions came from wallets with a prior history of activity, indicating that only a limited share of users were new to crypto.
The high compliance bar may have kept out malicious actors. Users had to undergo identity verification, disclose the source of funds, and wait for manual review of each application. As a result, the share of questionable funds on FIFA Collect was negligible, analysts noted.
