Fed Holds Rate at 3.50-3.75% for Fifth Meeting, Hike Risks Linger

The FOMC left rates unchanged for a fifth consecutive meeting at 3.50%–3.75%, with three presidents dissenting in favor of a 25 bps hike, UOB strategists note.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) held the federal funds target rate steady at 3.50%–3.75% for the fifth meeting in a row. The decision was not unanimous: three regional Fed presidents voted to raise rates by 25 basis points, resulting in a 9–3 split.

UOB strategists interpret the outcome as a "prolonged pause" but warn that risks of additional hikes remain. The dissent signals that some policymakers still see the need for further tightening.

The next Fed meeting will be closely watched for any shift in the dot plot or language that could indicate when and if the committee will begin cutting rates.
