Europe is facing a shortage of Patriot air defense interceptors at a time when Ukraine is seeking hundreds of the missiles ahead of Russia's anticipated winter offensive.

The United States' own stockpiles have been strained by the war in Iraq, and fresh production will not arrive in time, according to POLITICO.

Several European nations — including Germany, Poland, Spain and Greece — are reportedly reluctant to further deplete their own defensive reserves.
