ECB's Lane: Energy Shock May Delay Return to 2% Inflation

ECB Chief Economist Philip Lane says an energy shock could slow inflation's return to the 2% target, while the euro-area economy should grow moderately if energy pressures ease.

Philip Lane, Chief Economist at the European Central Bank, said an energy shock could push back the timeline for inflation returning to the 2% target.

He added that the European economy is expected to expand at a steady, moderate pace if energy shocks ease. The remarks highlight how energy costs remain a key variable for both growth and price stability in the euro area.

The comments come as policymakers continue to assess how quickly inflation will normalize after the recent period of elevated price pressures.
