Danish Real Spending Stalls in July Despite Services Uptick

Seasonally adjusted real spending excluding energy dipped 0.1% month-on-month in July, while rising 3.8% versus a year earlier, as stronger services activity failed to lift the headline figure.

Denmark's consumer spending remained virtually flat in July, as a 0.1% month-on-month decline in real terms (excluding energy and adjusted for seasonal factors) offset any boost from the services sector.

Compared to July 2023, real spending excluding energy was 3.8% higher, indicating that the underlying trend still points to moderate growth over the past year. However, the monthly stagnation suggests that domestic demand momentum may be fading heading into the third quarter.

The unchanged headline masks a mixed composition: services spending showed resilience, but other components likely weighed on the aggregate, keeping overall consumption in check.
