Crypto Wrench Attacks Surpass $30M in H1 2026; Kidnappings Lead

Losses from violent physical attacks on cryptocurrency holders surpassed $30 million in the first half of 2026, with analysts documenting 46 incidents by June’s end. Kidnappings made up more than half of these crimes, while home assaults accounted for 37%.

Physical attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders have caused losses exceeding $30 million since the start of 2026, with 46 violent incidents recorded through the end of June. The data was reported by analysts tracking on-chain and off-chain security threats.

Of the 46 recorded cases, more than half involved kidnappings. Home invasions were the next most common method, making up 37% of the attacks. The remaining incidents encompassed other forms of violent coercion.

A notable trend is the shift in target selection. Instead of directly targeting asset owners, criminals increasingly focus on their relatives and acquaintances, exploiting personal relationships to pressure victims into surrendering funds.
