The first half of 2026 saw a record surge in successful hacks on the crypto industry. Security firm Blockaid reported 212 confirmed breaches, with total losses exceeding $1 billion—already surpassing the number of hacks logged in all of 2025.
Ethereum-based projects suffered the heaviest losses at $332 million, closely followed by Solana at $326 million. Analysts linked the largest thefts to North Korean hacking groups.
For the second half of the year, Blockaid expects a shift in attack patterns, forecasting a rise in threats against AI agents. These could involve prompt poisoning and the compromise of signing tools.
