Coinbase Clearing LLC Registered as DCO by CFTC for Fully Collateralised Derivatives

Coinbase Clearing LLC has been registered by the CFTC as derivatives clearing organisation 64361, clearing fully collateralised futures, options on futures and swaps alongside Coinbase's existing FCM and DCM.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission registered Coinbase Clearing LLC as a derivatives clearing organisation (DCO) on 28 September 2026. The CFTC register lists the entity as DCO number 64361 and carries the remark that it was "Registered by Commission order; permitted to clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps."

The registration gives Coinbase a complete derivatives chain housed in its own entities: the futures commission merchant Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc., the designated contract market Coinbase Derivatives, LLC, and now the clearinghouse. Coinbase describes the new unit as the first USDC-native clearinghouse, built around USDC collateral and round-the-clock settlement, and says it can now create and settle fully collateralised contracts directly rather than relying on outside infrastructure.

Molly Abraham, General Counsel at Coinbase, framed the approval as the final piece of that structure, saying it completes the company's end-to-end derivatives infrastructure and allows it to bring more regulated derivatives products to market with native USDC collateral and 24/7 settlement.

Scope stays narrow

The remit appears limited. The CFTC register remark covers fully collateralised products specifically. According to Coinbase, margined derivatives and its forthcoming single-stock perpetuals remain with existing partners, so the new clearinghouse does not replace those arrangements. The company's announcement did not give a launch date or name any initial products.

For futures commission merchants and introducing brokers that clear or route Coinbase derivatives flow, the arrival of a fully pre-funded clearinghouse with USDC collateral and around-the-clock settlement points to a different margin and funding model than a conventional DCO. Those firms may want to map which of their Coinbase flows sit inside the fully collateralised remit and which continue through the existing partners, since that split appears to determine what can migrate to the new entity.
