China Rail Boosts Air Conditioner Shipments to Europe Amid Heat Waves
China State Railway Group is accelerating deliveries of air conditioners to Europe via a rail link that cuts transit time to about 15 days, compared with 40 days by sea, as heat waves sweep the continent.
The state-owned rail operator is ramping up outbound volumes on the China–Europe freight line in response to heightened demand for cooling equipment during Europe’s summer heat waves. The overland route slashes delivery time to roughly two weeks versus ocean freight’s 40‑day voyage.
Shipments of air conditioners are being prioritised along the trans‑Eurasian corridor, which has gained traction as a middle‑ground alternative that is faster than sea freight and cheaper than air cargo. The move highlights how extreme weather events are reshaping logistics chains for seasonal goods.
The increased flow may also help alleviate spot shortages of cooling appliances in Southern and Central European markets, where temperatures have repeatedly breached record levels this season.
