Central Bank Gold Buying Hits 289 Tonnes in Q2 2026

Central banks globally purchased 289 tonnes of gold in Q2 2026, a 62-tonne increase year-over-year and the largest quarterly addition since Q4 2024. The quarterly surge from the previous quarter was 231 tonnes (+407%).

Central bank gold purchases in the second quarter of 2026 surged to 289 tonnes, marking a 62-tonne increase compared to the same period last year and the largest quarterly addition since Q4 2024. Quarter-over-quarter, purchases jumped by 231 tonnes, or 407%.

So far this year, central banks have accumulated 345 tonnes of gold. Poland has been the most aggressive buyer, adding 82 tonnes and boosting its total reserves to a record 632 tonnes. Uzbekistan and China also featured prominently, with purchases of 41 tonnes and 40 tonnes respectively.

The data confirms central banks continue to accumulate gold at a rapid pace.
