Brazilian Beef Imports Near China’s Quota, Higher Tariff Looms
China’s Ministry of Commerce reports that beef imports from Brazil have reached 90% of the country-specific quota as of August 10. Once the cap is triggered, a 55% tariff will apply to over-quota shipments three days later.
Brazilian beef imports to China have hit 90% of the allocated country-specific quota as of August 10, up from 80% previously, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce.
Once the quota cap is fully reached, an additional 55% tariff will be imposed on any imports exceeding the limit three days after the trigger date.
The fill rate underscores robust demand for Brazilian beef in the Chinese market, but the impending cap and tariff increase may raise costs for importers in the near term.
