bitFlyer EUROPE Obtains MiCA CASP License

BitFlyer Europe obtained a CASP license under the EU's MiCA framework from the CSSF, enabling cross-border crypto services across all 27 EU member states starting June 26, 2026.
BitFlyer Europe S.A., the Luxembourg-based subsidiary of Japanese crypto exchange group bitFlyer Holdings, has been granted a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The authorization was issued by the Luxembourg financial regulator, Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), effective June 26, 2026.
With this license, bitFlyer Europe transitions from a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) to a MiCA-compliant CASP. This allows the company to passport its services across all 27 EU member states, enabling cross-border offerings under a single regulatory framework. The move replaces the previous country-by-country VASP regime with a uniform EU-wide authorization.
BitFlyer Holdings now holds regulatory licenses or registrations in Japan, the United States, and Europe, covering three major regulated markets for crypto assets. The group emphasizes that operating under the supervision of multiple regulators strengthens its global compliance and governance infrastructure.
Yuzo Kano, CEO and founder of bitFlyer Holdings, stated: “BitFlyer was born in Japan in 2014 as a crypto asset exchange. As the founder, I am very proud that our group has obtained an official license under the EU’s MiCA, one of the strictest regulations in the world. This shows that the compliance and security standards cultivated in Japan are recognized by European regulators.”
The MiCA regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) became fully applicable across all EU member states on December 30, 2024. It provides a comprehensive legal framework for crypto assets and related services, including passporting rights for CASPs.
BitFlyer Europe is a financial services company established in Luxembourg, offering crypto asset trading and custody services to both institutional and retail investors across the EU. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of bitFlyer Holdings, headquartered in Tokyo.
