Binance Research: RWA-Linked Perpetuals Capture Trading…

Binance Research says weekend volume in traditional-asset-linked perpetuals reached about $28 billion a month by mid-August, up from roughly $4.5 billion earlier in 2026, with Binance taking nearly half.

Real-world asset (RWA) linked perpetual futures are capturing trading demand outside regular U.S. market hours, with monthly weekend volume across crypto exchanges reaching roughly $28 billion by mid-August, according to Binance Research. That compares with about $4.5 billion earlier in 2026, and Binance itself accounted for close to half of the activity.

The same pattern shows up in tokenized equities. Around 62% of Binance bStocks volume in July traded outside regular U.S. session hours, and 58% of cumulative bStocks volume since launch was executed while the underlying markets were shut. By July 28, about $1.5 billion had changed hands on Binance during closed-market windows. Onchain, the skew is sharper: 92% of bStocks volume in the seven days through July 28 occurred while U.S. markets were closed, versus 59% on Binance, with onchain activity peaking around 8 p.m. Eastern and staying elevated through the Asian trading session.

Emerging-market demand

Binance Research links much of that to geography. Close to 93% of Binance stock-trading users come from emerging markets, where U.S. trading hours fall outside normal waking hours. Traditional venues are also stretching their sessions — Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange have pursued schedules approaching 23 hours on weekdays — but crypto platforms go further by remaining open through weekends. Perpetual futures give traders price exposure without requiring ownership of the referenced security.

The RWA derivatives segment is already substantial. Binance Research said in July that traditional-finance-linked perpetuals generated more than $1.1 trillion in aggregate volume during the first five months of 2026, roughly 11% of all perpetual futures trading, with Binance accounting for more than $500 billion, or about 47% of that segment.

Private-company exposure is emerging as the next extension. Perpetual open interest tied to pre-IPO names OpenAI and Anthropic exceeded $160 million by September 15, up from roughly $1 million in April. Aggregate pre-IPO perpetual volume reached $436 million in June after SpaceX's listing, and September volume had already surpassed $98 million by mid-month. These contracts provide derivative pricing exposure and do not confer ownership in the referenced companies.

Tokenized RWA assets reached $34.18 billion in assets under management by September 15, up 85.2% year to date, with tokenized equities among the fastest-growing categories at 390.4%. The competitive question, Binance Research suggests, is shifting from whether real-world assets can be tokenized to when those exposures are allowed to trade.
