Berkshire Hathaway Deploys Cash Pile, Turns Net Buyer of Equities in Q2
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway ended its 14-quarter streak of stock sales, becoming a net buyer of equities in Q2 with $19.8 billion in net purchases. The company deployed part of its massive cash reserves into Alphabet and Taylor Morrison Home.
Berkshire Hathaway has started putting its record $397.4 billion cash pile to work, reversing a 14-quarter run of net equity sales. In the second quarter, the conglomerate recorded $19.8 billion in net purchases, signaling a shift back toward bullish positioning.
Cash and equivalents now stand at $364.7 billion, down from the prior peak as the company deployed capital. Notable moves include a $10 billion investment in Alphabet (GOOGL) and the $6.8 billion acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison Home.
During the quarter, Berkshire bought $23.5 billion of equity securities while selling just $3.7 billion. The activity marks a clear pivot from the cautious stance that defined much of the preceding 14 quarters.
