AvaTrade agrees to acquire majority of FXCM business

AvaTrade has agreed to acquire the majority of FXCM Group’s business and brand, adding FXCM clients to its multi-asset platforms and AI-powered tools.

AvaTrade said on 9 October that it has agreed to acquire the majority of FXCM Group’s business and brand. The announcement, made in Dublin, will bring the acquired business under the AvaTrade Group’s global framework. The two companies will combine FXCM’s long-standing market presence with AvaTrade’s technology and product capabilities.

Under the agreement, the relevant FXCM clients will gain access to AvaTrade’s platforms, artificial intelligence-powered tools, and multi-asset offering. FXCM was founded in 1999 and became a pioneer in retail forex trading, developing a global client base over more than two decades. AvaTrade, established in 2006, provides futures, options, and contracts for difference on forex, commodities, indices, stocks, and crypto-related products, alongside copy trading. The company says it is regulated across multiple international jurisdictions.

AvaTrade described the acquisition as the latest in a series of strategic moves to expand its presence in online trading. It follows the launch of the AvaTrade Group’s AI-powered trading platform and several technology-focused initiatives. AvaTrade said these efforts reflect continued investment in technology, infrastructure, and specialist talent as it scales its international operations.

Strategic expansion

Daire Ferguson, CEO of AvaTrade, said: “Our ambition is to help shape the next phase of global online trading.” He added that the transaction represents a significant further step toward realising that ambition. “By combining FXCM’s established market presence with AvaTrade’s technology and product innovation, we aim to expand our global reach and build a stronger, more diversified trading group,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson also noted that the agreement supports AvaTrade’s strategy to expand internationally, broaden its multi-asset offering, and continue investing in technology, including AI, to support traders at every experience level.
