Australian Vanadium Signs MOU with Alcoa for Vanadium Flow Battery Study

Australian Vanadium and Alcoa have signed a non-binding MOU to evaluate a 50–80 MW vanadium flow battery with 6–8 hours of storage at an alumina refinery, with the study running over 18 months.

Australian Vanadium has entered a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Alcoa to jointly assess the feasibility of a vanadium flow battery system at an alumina refinery.

The proposed battery would have a capacity of 50–80 MW and provide 6–8 hours of storage. The technical and commercial study is expected to last 18 months.

The agreement highlights growing interest in long-duration energy storage solutions for industrial applications.
