Australian Futures Flat Despite Strong US Lead as ASX Eyes Muted Open

Australian stock futures are pointing to a flat start despite strong overnight gains on Wall Street, with the S&P/ASX 200 having risen in eight of its past ten sessions.

Australian equity futures indicated a muted open ahead of the local session, even as US markets rallied sharply. The S&P/ASX 200 finished the prior day with a 0.5% gain, marking its eighth positive close in ten sessions.

In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.32%, the S&P 500 climbed 1.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 2.1%. The upswing was supported by a steep decline in oil prices after President Trump signaled a return to diplomacy with Iran.

Despite the strong lead from offshore, local futures traded little changed, suggesting cautious sentiment ahead of the domestic trading day.
