XTB Launches Commodity CFDs in Indonesia After Bappebti…

XTB has launched commodity CFD trading in Indonesia with new regulatory approvals, offering metals and energy CFDs as Polish regulators continue reviewing retail access.

Polish online broker XTB has switched on commodity CFD trading for Indonesian clients after the local futures regulator approved the service. The company’s Indonesian operation announced on August 20 that clients can trade CFDs on gold, silver, palladium, oil and natural gas through the XTB app.

The authorisation is not a new, open-ended brokerage licence. PT XTB Indonesia Berjangka has held futures-broker licence 003/BAPPEBTI/SI/08/2020, and it now also lists SPA Approval No. 01/BAPPEBTI/SPA/07/2026 from Bappebti, Indonesia’s commodity futures trading regulator. SPA refers to the country’s Alternative Trading System, and the approval covers a defined set of derivative contracts, including the commodity CFDs named in the launch, rather than every CFD product XTB offers in other markets. XTB also lists separate approvals from the Financial Services Authority and Bank Indonesia.

Indonesia offers scale and a young investor base. Statistics Indonesia puts the 2025 population at 284.67 million, with roughly 68.9% made up of Gen Z, millennials and post-Gen Z cohorts. KSEI reported 20.32 million investor SIDs at end-December 2025, up 37% year on year, and financial-sector data show more than half of retail investors are aged 30 or younger. Bappebti said first-quarter 2026 commodity-futures trading volume increased 23.24% year on year. XTB reports that funded accounts in Indonesia rose 741.51% in H1 2026 versus H2 2025, while cumulative net deposits in June were 600% above December. Competition is also present: Bappebti’s January-March 2026 assessment covered 67 active futures brokers, and Plus500 Indonesia Futures holds both a futures-broker licence and an SPA permission.

The rollout in Indonesia contrasts with developments in Poland. On August 18, KNF communications director Jacek Barszczewski said the regulator’s review of how CFDs are offered by domestic firms and cross-border providers is continuing, with conclusions to be disclosed only once completed. No deadline or draft rules are public. The review examines whether brokers properly assess client knowledge, experience and understanding of CFD risk under MiFID, and KNF has previously considered elements of Spain’s stricter CFD promotion regime. XTB has a major stake in the outcome; CFDs remain a key revenue engine. KNF fined XTB PLN20 million in March over issues including client-knowledge checks, target-market identification and risk information. XTB has requested reconsideration, so that decision is not final.

The Indonesian launch is part of XTB’s broader diversification. In May the group renamed X Open Hub as XTB Institutional, its institutional liquidity business covering more than 5,000 FX and CFD instruments for brokers and banks. XTB has also expanded via its Dubai operation. For XTB, the immediate result is more room to grow leveraged retail trading in Southeast Asia while its home supervisor weighs whether Polish clients should get less access to CFDs.
