Topstep Acquires The Futures Desk
Chicago-based Topstep has acquired proprietary futures trading firm The Futures Desk, with its co-founders joining Topstep. The firm plans to integrate TFD's technology into its TopstepX platform.
Chicago-based Topstep has acquired The Futures Desk (TFD), a proprietary futures trading firm focused on structured trader development. Financial terms were not disclosed. As part of the deal, TFD co-founders Josh Schwartzberg and Brian Ford are joining Topstep, and TFD's technology will be integrated into TopstepX, Topstep's retail-focused futures trading platform.
Topstep founder and CEO Michael Patak said the acquisition brings in a team that focuses on developing traders through technology, tools and coaching. "This partnership is about raising the bar for the entire trading community," he said. Schwartzberg said The Futures Desk was created to help traders "actually learn the craft, not just chase a quick payout," and that Topstep shares that obsession.
Topstep said TFD's technology will add developmental tools to TopstepX, helping traders learn and build habits while trading. The TFD co-founders bring what Topstep described as a "hard hat" mentality and experience moving aspiring traders from simulated environments into live accounts.
The Futures Desk operates simulated trading programs designed to reinforce consistency, decision-making and responsible behavior, with the goal of preparing traders to manage the firm's capital in live markets.
Topstep, founded in 2010, is known for its Trading Combine evaluation program. Its ecosystem includes TopstepX, media network TopstepTV and Topstep Brokerage, an introducing broker registered with the CFTC and a member of the NFA. The company says it serves trading communities in more than 170 countries. Topstep said the acquisition accelerates its roadmap toward what it calls "The Ultimate Trading Experience" — a mix of support, technology and coaching meant to help traders get funded and stay funded.
