The Future of Trading: CMTrading Upgrades to MetaTrader 5 (MT5)

CMTrading will transition all client accounts to MetaTrader 5 by April 4, 2026, discontinuing MT4. The upgrade is free, with automatic migration of funds and open positions.

CMTrading, an online broker serving traders under FSA (Seychelles) and FSCA (South Africa) regulations, has announced it will migrate all client accounts to MetaTrader 5 (MT5) by April 4, 2026. After that date, MetaTrader 4 (MT4) will be permanently discontinued and all trading will take place exclusively on the MT5 platform.

The broker said the transition is designed to be seamless for existing clients. Account numbers will remain the same as current MT4 logins, and full trading history and balances will be available in MT5 from day one. For enhanced security, the Client Area password and the MT5 trading account password will be unified. Clients will be prompted to reset their password upon first login after migration—either via the Client Area or through a pop-up in the MT5 terminal. Open positions and funds will be automatically carried over, though a brief downtime window is expected on migration day.

Key Upgrades in MT5 vs. MT4

CMTrading highlighted several advantages of the newer platform:

  • More order types: MT5 adds Buy/Sell Stop Limit for a total of six types, compared to four on MT4.
  • Additional timeframes: 21 options on MT5 versus nine on MT4 for more granular chart analysis.
  • Built-in economic calendar: Live macro events are now integrated directly into the platform.
  • Native copy trading: One-click signal subscriptions are available without third-party tools.
  • Larger algo trading ecosystem: Over 20,000 robots and indicators in the MQL5 Market, compared to a smaller pool on MQL4.
  • Improved strategy tester: Multi-currency and real-tick data testing replace MT4’s single-currency approach.
  • Integrated VPS: Built-in 24/7 hosting for Expert Advisors.
  • Broader asset coverage: MT5 supports true multi-asset trading including stocks and futures, not just forex and CFDs.

Important Technical Changes

CMTrading noted that MT4 Expert Advisors (MQL4) are not compatible with MT5. Traders using automated strategies must convert them to MQL5 or download MT5 versions from the MQL5 Market. Custom indicators and templates will not transfer automatically, and clients are advised to back up settings and source equivalent MT5 tools. Account regulatory status and documentation remain valid, with no re-KYC required.

FAQs and Migration Details

The transition is free of charge for all CMTrading clients. Islamic (swap-free) account policies will remain unchanged, as MT5 fully supports swap-free configurations. The broker also provided branded mobile links to pre-populate the CMTrading server for faster login.
