Saxo and Chartered Investment Cut Onboarding for Fund-Style Certificates to Five Days

Chartered Investment has integrated Saxo's brokerage infrastructure into its platform, letting asset managers issuing actively managed certificates onboard in five days.

Saxo Bank and Chartered Investment said on Wednesday that Chartered Investment has wired Saxo's brokerage infrastructure into its digital platform, cutting the onboarding process for asset managers that issue actively managed certificates (AMCs) to five days.

An AMC packages a discretionary strategy inside a note rather than a fund, which removes the cost and launch time a manager would otherwise face. Under the arrangement, managers using Flow AMC, a new module on the Chartered Investment platform, trade through a single Saxo account with direct market access across global markets and asset classes. Chartered Investment retains the structuring, regulatory and lifecycle work.

Single Account, Direct Market Access

Chartered Investment already operates AMCs alongside Interactive Brokers, where assets are approaching EUR 1 billion (about $1.2 billion), according to Structured Retail Products. The firm was founded in 2013 and issued its first AMC in 2016; Interactive Brokers has been its trading partner for more than a decade. Beyond Europe and Singapore, Chartered Investment is exploring South America and South Africa.

The tie-up lands a month after Saxo reported an 18% year-on-year increase in first-half profit, with client assets reaching EUR 153 billion. It also mirrors the Danish bank's wider partner strategy: a 2024 review of its Asian business looked for partners to run its platforms under their own brands, and Saxo now says it powers more than 150 financial institutions. Saxo has previously packaged third-party strategies, including SaxoSelect, its 2016 ETF portfolio service built with BlackRock.

Asset managers "need a simpler and more efficient way to bring strategies to market," said Henrik Alsøe, global head of Saxo Institutional. Daniel Maier, general manager at Chartered Investment, said Flow AMC "brings the efficiency of modern brokerage infrastructure to the AMC market."

The companies linked the launch to demand for AMCs in Singapore and Switzerland. Singapore became Saxo's regional base after the bank closed its Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, and in May it added a premium tier for accredited investors there. Saxo holds a capital markets services licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and a banking licence in Switzerland. In the Swiss market, online bank Swissquote began issuing structured products through Leonteq's white-label platform in 2022 under its own Yield Booster brand.
