Questrade Launches Custom Indexing: Canada's First Personalized Index Investing Product

Questrade unveiled Custom Indexing, a self-directed personalized index portfolio with no management fees, available in registered and non-registered accounts.

Questrade has launched Custom Indexing, a self-directed portfolio product the Toronto-based online brokerage says is Canada's first personalized index investing offering with no management fees.

The product, announced on June 2, 2026, lets investors start from a library of broad-market or thematic index templates and adjust the underlying holdings to fit their own strategy, values or convictions. Users can add or remove individual companies, tilt toward sectors or themes, and hold up to 600 securities from a universe of more than 10,000 US-listed stocks and ETFs. Questrade said Canadian securities will be added to the universe in the future.

Custom Indexing can be used in registered accounts such as TFSAs and RRSPs, as well as non-registered accounts. The brokerage said it charges no commissions, management fees or account fees on Custom Index trades or rebalances, noting that other fees, including foreign exchange charges and ETF fund costs, may still apply.

The platform includes automated monitoring with alerts when positions drift from target allocations, plus one-click rebalancing that can realign hundreds of positions at once.

"Today's investors want to move beyond the one-size-fits-all portfolio and have their investments reflect what they actually believe," said Hwan Kim, Questrade's chief product officer. "Custom Indexing puts that power directly into Canadians' hands."

Rob Galaski, president of parent company Questrade Financial Group, called the launch "a genuine market first" that challenges industry assumptions.

Questrade also introduced a curated library of indices built by Canadian investing community figures, including Braden Dennis, Simon Belanger, Dan Kent, Tal Schwartz, Lina Wu, Zac Hartley, Adrian Bar, Shay Huang and Joyee Yang.

Questrade said the product is available now at questrade.com/custom-indexing. The brokerage, which has more than C$100 billion in assets under administration, is a subsidiary of Questrade Financial Group and regulated by CIRO and CIPF.
