Prepaid Visa Cards Funded With Crypto: How to Load, Spend,…

Visa and Bridge's stablecoin cards are live in 18 markets with plans for 100+ countries by the end of 2026, while Crypto.com advertises up to 8% rewards and Coinbase Card up to 4% back in crypto.

Crypto-funded Visa cards are shifting from niche products into broader payment infrastructure. Visa's stablecoin programme with Bridge was live in 18 markets as of March 2026, with plans to reach more than 100 countries by the end of the year, extending the partnership beyond Latin American markets and letting USDC holders spend through Visa's merchant network.

The cards convert digital assets into local fiat currency. Some providers convert when funds are loaded, locking in an exchange rate; others, such as the Coinbase Card, convert at the point of sale and let users choose which asset — Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC or other supported tokens — funds each purchase. Merchants receive settlement in fiat, so crypto never appears at the counter. Visa said in a September 2025 fact sheet that its network reaches more than 150 million merchant locations.

Rewards and limits

Crypto.com operates a tiered Visa system spanning Basic, Plus, Pro, Private and Prime levels, with benefits, eligibility and staking requirements varying by market. Its Prime tier is currently listed at up to 8% rewards, and its card information cites a EUR 25,000 monthly top-up limit across tiers. The Coinbase Card is a US Visa debit product that pays up to 4% back in crypto tokens deposited into the user's Coinbase account after each purchase. Wirex offers a Visa card supporting crypto loading in the UK, while its EEA cards run on Mastercard. BitPay's Visa card ended in December 2020 and was replaced by a prepaid Mastercard programme that closed in June 2023.

Fees and tax treatment vary by provider. Conversion fees typically fall between 1% and 3%, basic tiers generally carry no annual fee, and foreign transaction and ATM charges differ by card; Ethereum gas costs can also raise the price of loading funds. In the United States, every crypto-to-fiat conversion at the point of sale is a taxable event, and the IRS requires holders to calculate capital gains or losses using each asset's acquisition cost basis, making detailed transaction records essential. Providers offer downloadable histories to support annual filings.

Regulation remains a moving target. Issuers must comply with anti-money-laundering rules, KYC checks are mandatory before activation, and Europe's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework sets standards for providers across the EU. Cardholders are advised to confirm a provider's regulatory standing before applying.
