LMAX Brings Gold to Its Perpetual Futures Lineup with 24/7 XAU/USD Trading

LMAX Group has launched gold perpetual futures on its institutional platform, enabling around-the-clock XAU/USD trading including weekends. The move extends LMAX's derivatives range beyond crypto as gold trades near record highs.

LMAX Group has expanded its institutional derivatives offering with the launch of gold perpetual futures, giving clients continuous XAU/USD exposure across weekends and outside traditional market hours. The London-based cross-asset marketplace announced the move this week, citing growing institutional demand for gold derivatives that operate beyond standard trading windows.

The new product is margin-based, USD-settled and has no expiry date, allowing funds and brokers to hold positions through a Sunday without rolling or closing them. According to LMAX, it is designed to hedge existing spot or CFD gold exposure in a capital-efficient way, addressing the weekend gap risk that can leave gold books exposed while traditional markets are closed.

Jenna Wright, Managing Director of Digital Assets at LMAX Group, said: "Access to gold exposure should not stop when the underlying market closes. For institutions managing exposure across spot and derivatives, continuity is key."

LMAX first entered the perpetual futures space in September 2025 with BTC/USD and ETH/USD contracts offering leverage of up to 100x, positioning itself as a regulated alternative to offshore crypto venues. The gold product follows the same structural model and builds on LMAX's execution infrastructure, which handles more than $40 billion in average daily spot volume across FX and digital assets. In December 2025, the firm expanded distribution through an integration with Gold-i's technology network, and in early February it adopted MetaQuotes' Ultency matching engine for MT5-connected institutional clients. The gold rollout also sits alongside LMAX's Omnia Exchange, a cross-asset settlement platform supporting real-time conversion across FX, crypto and stablecoins via a single API.

The timing reflects a broader rally in the precious metal. Gold was trading near $4,900 per ounce this week after briefly touching all-time highs above $4,893 earlier in the month, having gained roughly 65% through 2025. LMAX is not alone in targeting the space: GCEX recently launched gold futures for institutional CFD activity, and BingX reported that record gold prices drove about half of its $1 billion surge in traditional finance trading volumes.
